Cultural Sports Festival in New Jersey, USA PDF Print E-mail

On August 16-17, 2008, hundreds of young people descended on Woodrow Wilson Middle School in Clifton, NJ for a weekend of sports, fun, and friendship in this year's BCSF (Blessed Culture Sports Festival). Participants came from throughout the east coast, some as far away as Georgia and Ohio to compete in the various sports tournaments and enjoy the culture of friendship and good sportsmanship. Many families also came to support and cheer on their athletes as well as enjoy the sunny summer weekend with fun and music.

The Peace Dream Foundation together with Sports for Peace and Play Football Make Peace helped sponsor the weekend's photo contest calling for the most breathtaking action shot from the various sports. Cash prizes were awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. The Peace Dream Foundation believes in the positive values of sport to spread the message of peace. Through good sportsmanship and fair play, sports bring a powerful message.

The BCSF main organizer, Jin Kwon Kim asked all the participants to share the culture of good sportsmanship, fair play, and friendship throughout the very competitive weekend.

Tournaments in Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, and Ultimate Frisbee were all very competitive and exciting. In the end, New Jersey won the Ultimate Frisbee tournament, Ohio won Basketball, and New York won Volleyball. The Soccer Tournament proved to be a treat to all the fans as the semi-finals ended in penalty kicks with a team from Bridgeport, Connecticut reaching the finals and eventually winning the tournament.

The BCSF continues to grow every year with more participants coming from even farther away. The Peace Dream Foundation hopes to be of even greater support to the work of this sports festival in the future as it continues to spread the message of peace through sports by transforming culture.
