In April 2005 ten teams, mostly from the war-torn northern and eastern Uganda districts participated in a PFMP tournament. Among the participators were the two popular community military teams "Amuka Boys" and "Arrow Boys", who played the honorary curtain raiser match before the finals. A total of 27 matches were played over the three-day tournament, attended daily by over 10,000 spectators. About 13,000 people, who came to see the finals, also took part in a peace march through the town of Soroti, waving placards and distributing "Make Peace" fliers. In the end it was embraces and tears of forgiveness all around. The Play Football Make Peace message had hit home. |
